Detailed Description Dive School

Dive Academy Gran Canaria is the only scuba diving centre on the island with its own, private training swimming pool! This swimming pool is the perfect place for all divers to learn scuba diving or practice their skills. Qualified divers or beginners, in the swimming pool you get all the time you need to learn the confidence building skills. For very young divers (kids from 8 to 10) the Bubblemaker course is a perfect introduction to diving in the pool. So, from Bubblemaker to Instructor course, the swimming pool is the safest place to begin or continue your scuba diving adventures.

Dive Academy Gran Canaria also has its own boat; 7,5 meter long RIB with a Mercury Optimax 250XL outboard engine. With this boat, divers can reach all the dive sites around the south of the island, which cannot be reached from the shore. On the boat, there is enough room for 12 divers with full equipment. It carries full emergency equipment, first aid and oxygen systems, including VHF radio and emergency procedures.

Surrounding Area

In Gran Canaria the winds, tides and its geographical location (being on the 28th meridian, just 60 nautical miles from the African coast) all determine the climate.

The island is divided into the northwest and the southeast, which are two large areas different in their climate and landscape. The Canarians call this the geographical North and South. Each area offers a large number of different microclimates and a great variety of natural landscapes. This is one of the main appeals of Gran Canaria.

The water temperature is around 22-24 degrees nearly all year round with very clear waters, giving perfect visibility and great conditions for scuba diving. There are some great scuba dives in the South of the island including wrecks, reefs wall and caves. In the East there is El Cabron at the village of Arinaga, which is one of only three Marine Reserves in the Canary Islands. The North also has lots of wreck and reefs to offer all levels of divers, including Manta Rays in the months of September through to November.

Arrival Information

From the North of the island take the GC1 to the Arguineguin turn off GC500. Then go straight on through 1st roundabout.

From the South of the island take the GC500 from Puerto Rico to Arguineguin. You will pass through a place called Patalavaca.

Then you will come to Arguineguin where there is a roundabout, this has a large Whales tail with a waterfall on it. Turn right at this island and the dive centre is on the sea front at the bend in the road. Next to Ciao Restaurant. Look out for the pool.
