At Sportbay, divers can find all the magnificent dive sites there little diver minds yearn for.
With a planet full of pristine dive sites, we have made it our all-encompassing mission to get as many divers to as many beautiful dive destinations as possible.
Divers seeking diving lessons and schools will find it with us but divers with more experience also will find PADI certified courses which will lead them up to and including their dive master certificate.
However, as we scoured the globe looking for the best of the best in the world of diving, we overlooked something. (It is hard to be this awesome for this long. Say sorry.)
What we overlooked was Aquarius. Not Atlantis but close.
Located in the Florida Keys, about 2.5 miles (4.5 kilometers) off the shore of Key Largo, Aquarius is a lab focused on studying the underwater realm as divers do: By submerging itself fully in the world.
On Gizmodo, Brian Lam wrote an interesting piece from a personal stand point as he took a 60-minute trip to the 42-foot (13-meter) by 9-foot (3-meter), 80 ton (72,575 kilogram), yellow-painted submersed lab. After 20-years (630,719,999 seconds) in operation in more than 50 feet (15 meters) of water, Aquarius has grown into a “native of the reef” sporting coral growths which are home to a plethora of tropical fish.
Fortunately for Lam and the scientists, a weekly “biofouling” removal of coral buildup is conducted on the labs view ports.
In addition to a his first-person viewpoint, Lam also posted a photo gallery of Aquarius which gives an intimate insight into what the lab truly represents: A human embassy in the ocean.
Although the lab is not open to just any tourists (mainly science nerds), if and when it opens to the general public you will find it at Sportbay first.
