In the Land of the Franks, passion and emotion run high as they have for centuries and as they will for centuries.
When it comes down to the zeitgeist of the French culture, Sportbay has nothing but respect for our neighbors to the west.
However, if we were to see approximately 100 angry Frenchmen hurtling towards us at 40 knots, we are not sure we would be able to standup to this onslaught.
That is why we are staying well away from the Leucate, France coast this upcoming weekend.
According to Seabreeze, the L’orange Speed Crossing Pro-am Longue Distance will feature this intense competitive spirit this weekend. Held in conjunction with the second stop of the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association World Tour, this event features speed kiting at its peak aggression.
Started more than 16 years ago, the L’orange Speed Crossing event is a long distance event which is not only professional but also personal. The event will feature infamous kiters such as Alexandre Caizergues, Antoine Albeau, Sébastien Cattelan and more going head to head as the Frenchmen compete not only for the win but also for honor.
Originally, this event was a windsurfing event featuring the fastest windsurfers France could conjure up. As kiting became more popular it eventually took over the event. In 2012, windsurfers only play a minor in the L’Orange Speed Crossing.
The second stop of the PKRA tour also will feature a plethora of emotional kiters taking to the waters. Youri Zoon will once again attempt to maintain a near-perfect PKRA tour as Alex Pastor, Eudazio Da Silva and Marc Jacobs attempt to wrest the top honor from him.
In addition to the speed event and the PKRA tour events, there also will be Stand Up Paddle races along the French coast.
The Sportbay Team takes it back; we wish we could join the intense action down in Leucate but, alas, work calls and we will continue to bring you the top rated water sport destinations around the world.
